Great Lakes Kangal Club

The Great Lakes Kangal Club is open! We are a recreational regional club, devoted to the preservation and protection of the Turkish Kangal Dog. The Kangal is a National Treasure which should be respected as such and preserved.

Our Club's motto is "Education and Preservation". To that end, we are involved with many activities working towards preserving the valuable working traits of these very noble dogs as well as educating the public regarding the Kangal breed.  It is also our responsibility to assist new members, Kangal owners, and breeders.

Recreation

As a family oriented recreational club we want to provide members with a friendly, fun filled environment.  Activities are provided for members for the purpose of meeting with and getting to know each other and our dogs for the benefit of all.   We wish to create a club culture that will foster an environment of mutual respect for our fellow club members which we feel in turn will encourage member participation in all aspects of our club.

Preservation and Protection

As a club and as breeders  we pledge to preserve and protect the Working Kangal Dogs traits, temperament, and intelligence.  We as members and breeders. pledge to follow the Great Lakes Kangal Club Code of Ethics.

Living With the Kangal

Our GLKC has many varied Activities and Events, Newsletters, Projects, a Club store, and Club web site.  By participating in club activities, members share in the common interest of living with, working, and having fun with their Kangal dogs.  It is our desire that our club will offer a place for Kangal owners to learn more about their dogs through the knowledge and shared experiences of other Kangal owners.  This in turn should lead to long and healthy lives and relationships with our Kangals.

Education

As a club we feel it is very important to be involved in public education regarding the Kangal dog.  Our club has prepared a brochure available for hand out regarding the Kangal dog.  We also feel it is the responsibility of our more experienced members to assist those newer/novice Kangal owners, breeders, and members in any way that is needed.
